Statement of Intent Bird life.

The object of this course is to produce 10 quality images of birds.  I intend to get as many different spices as possible with in the time frame that I have.

The reason for doing this sort of photography is that I have been doing this sort of photography for a couple of years and I have always been interested in wildlife.  I enjoy take shots of the smaller birds they are more colourful and more challenging as they move very quickly.  I am going down to Lands-end so I sell be doing some seascapes as well.

The equipment that I intend to use is a Nikon D200 body with a 500mm sigma lens plus 300mm lens with a Sony 450 body.  I will also be using tripods and mono pods with bird hides and camouflage covers.  Plus bean bags for stability this is to stop camera shake.  I may be taking Landscapes photo's as well so a 28 mm or 24 mm lens will be used.  These will be wide angle lenses with possible some filters like polarizer, warm up and grads.

The techniques that will be used are:  I will be in a hide that will be set up out of any ones way and put up safely, without doing any damage to the environment. And by getting permission of the right authorities.

The light will be natural  light, no flashes will be used, if the light is very low ten I will alter the ISO on the camera.  I have some flash units but, I will not be using them because I am a firm believer that natural light is best.  This you will see from the photo's that will be taken.  I shell be doing some seascapes so for this I shell be using a 28 mm lens on a tripod so as to use a slow shutter speed of F22. I will be using a polarizer filter and a grad filter to slow it down even more this will make the waves look like cotton wool.  The polarizer filter will take some of the reflections of the seascape.  With a slow shutter speed you will need to have a cable release as to prevent camera shake which stops you have blurred images.

The risk of health and safety will always be considered and put in place.  If I put any hide up to take any photographs then I will observe the country side and the environment, being very careful were I put the hide as to watch for plant life and small invertebrates.  And that I don't damage the country side, I also shell seek permission from the right authorities that I can put the hide up.  I will find out if there are any areas that are restricted so as not to cause any one or anything any arm what so ever.  The country side is to be respected as well as the environment. Some certain spices need you to have a license to photograph them, if I come across this I will seek advice how to get the necessary license.  For the seascapes I shell study the land layout and only take pictures when it is safe to do so, also I shell find out the times of high tide and low tide, and keep a constant eye on the tide as comes in.  So as not to get cut off from the land and cause any emergencies like the life boats having to rescue me. Health and Safety is always considered when doing this sort of photography.
